Provo City School District

Wasatch Elementary School

Welcome back to Wasatch and a new school year! This year’s theme reflects something we can all take to heart: KEEP GOING, KEEP GROWING. We want to thank our phenomenal administration, faculty and staff for their work in preparing to teach our children in the safest way possible. They are truly heroes!

PAWS is the parent organization at Wasatch, and all are invited to participate. Our mission is to support the school. We welcome engagement, volunteering, and input from all interested parents and grandparents, and we collect no dues. Monthly meetings are held, usually on the first Friday of every month. We’d love to have you join us!

One of our goals for this year is to streamline fundraising. In addition to any event fundraisers we are able to have and store incentive programs (BoxTops, Smith’s, etc.), we welcome community donations of any amount. If businesses or employers in the community make it their practice to donate or match donations to schools, please bring that to our attention by emailing paws4wasatch@gmail.com. Additionally, financial donations from families are welcome and appreciated and can be coordinated with Cheryl Bikman, cherykins@gmail.com.

We are looking forward to growing together this school year. Please reach out if there’s any way we can help you and your family have a positive Wasatch experience!

Sincerely,

PAWS Presidency

Emily Craig, Co-President

Emily is originally from Kennewick, Washington and Glendale, Arizona and has five children—her youngest is at Wasatch in fifth grade. She loves to stay up on the news, travel, read, obsess about politics, and eat good-textured fruit. She studied International Relations and Anthropology and can be found constantly trying to grow her own knowledge on lots of disparate topics. As a third and fourth grader she loved her time with Mrs. Ogden, learning all about Latin and Greek root words while tending to her giant papier-mache dragon head, Archie comics, and collection of eraser shavings. When not working to better the school you can find her watching over the growth of her happy and productive children and reminiscing over that 365 foot bungee jump in Zimbabwe.

Britney Wood, Co-President

Britney is originally from Auburn, Washington and has six children – her sixth grader, fourth grader, and kindergartener are at Wasatch. She loves to read (especially historical fiction), travel, cook, find ways to be creative, and eat cheese. Or crostini. Or pizza. Or almost anything tasty. She studied Anthropology and Dance and can be found constantly growing herbs. As a second grader she loved her time with Mrs. Walsh who taught her to spell big words like “tuberculosis” and nurtured her love of stories by submitting her tale of a dragon and a mouse to a children’s magazine. When not helping in the school she can be found dreaming of growing an acre of artichokes and channeling her inner Leslie Knope.

Sara Wursten, Secretary

Sara is from Provo, Utah and has four children – twin fifth graders and a second grader attend Wasatch. She loves to crochet, quilt, read biographies, spend time with her family watching movies, hiking, and swimming. She studied Biology Education and can be found tending to her successful tomatoes, stomping her cursed zucchini, and crossing her fingers for her corn. In fifth grade she was inspired by her teacher that made everyone feel excited about school and put them at ease as they continued to transition and grow into older students. When Sara isn’t busy sending emails, taking notes, and strategizing for the school, she can be found dreaming of a plentiful watermelon patch and recollecting those long five days living in the Atlanta airport on her way to Spain.

Cheryl Bickman, Treasurer

Cheryl is from Orem, Utah and has 3 children – currently her second and fifth grader are at Wasatch. She loves all outdoor adventures, but especially skiing, mountain biking, hiking, traveling, and photography. She can be found snacking on her favorite fry sauce and gas station nachos while she imbibes all things Anne of Green Gables. She studied City Planning and loves to grow strong, meaningful relationships. In elementary school her favorite friendly teacher, Mrs. Black, always knew how to make her feel loved and engaged in the learning process. In a rare moment when you don’t see Cheryl helping at the school, she’s contemplating a big garden and creating a new job for herself in PAWS, as she’s proven her love for Wasatch by already serving in every position possible!
