Bienvenido al aula de la Sra. Shih 欢迎来到施老师的教室！

Queridos padres increíbles,

     I am your student’s 2nd grade Chinese Immersion teacher, Mrs.Shih, originally from Taiwan. I graduated from the Ohio State University with a Masters Degree in Educational Studies. This is my 10th year teaching at Wasatch. There are 5 things I enjoy the most in my spare time: eating, traveling, gardening, going to rock concerts, and wandering in the movie land. 

     Estoy encantada de enseñar a su alumno este año. Esta va a ser otra maravillosa experiencia de aprendizaje de "prueba y error". Su estudiante aprenderá chino, matemáticas, ciencias, estudios sociales, y muchas otras cosas pequeñas pero importantes en mi aula. Creo que la colaboración positiva entre estudiantes, padres y maestros, junto con un fuerte apoyo y aliento en el hogar, definitivamente capacitará a su estudiante para la vida. Por favor ayude a su estudiante a llegar a tiempo a la escuela y evite ausencias innecesarias ya que el tiempo de instrucción es precioso. Su esfuerzo para ayudar a su estudiante a obtener suficiente tiempo de aprendizaje será muy apreciado.

On Friday, a weekly newsletter will be sent out via email to keep you informed of what the class has learned and some important reminders. Your student will also receive a weekly Chinese+Math homework packet on Friday starting the Labor Day week. Please encourage your student to complete homework and return it by the following Friday. Please help your student acknowledge the benefits of doing homework. S/he can: learn about problem solving, time management and setting priorities; have another opportunity to practice what was learned in class; learn how to work independently and take responsibility for his/her own learning; and understand the importance of planning, staying organized and taking action. I will also strongly recommend your student to take advantage of ​the learning platform links shown on my class website. ​Using these platforms ​at home may enhance your student learning experience. The platforms include Mandarin Matrix, Level Learning, Waggle Math, and most importantly, Mrs. Shih’s Quizlet that covers what was taught in the classroom.
