  • Required: Be ready to learn a simple dance at the audition and perform it with a group.
  • Optional: Perform a cold read at auditions if interested in a speaking role.
  • Optional: Prepare 1-minute of dance choreography if interested in a dance feature. Looking especially for hip-hop, tap, & jazz dance experience. A CD player will be provided, or you can play music on your own device.
  • Stage Crew does not need to prepare anything.
  • Required: As auditioners, I expect you to show Respectful Audience Behavior for those participating.
  • No cell phones or electronic devices will be permitted during downtime in auditions/rehearsals.
  • Students may bring a snack for the 10-minute break immediately after school, but will need to put it away when auditions begin right at 3:30.

Parts

  • Two ENSEMBLES of singer/dancers to perform their musical numbers.
  • There will be a few LARGE SPEAKING ROLES (Minimal to no singing required.)
  • Looking for dancers who can perform their own DANCE SOLOS (hip hop, tap, jazz dance experience preferred)
  • Each number will have featured COSTUMED CHARACTERS & some characters will have SINGING SOLOS
  • Some featured characters will have a small group DANCE FEATURE
  • STAGE CREW and a STAGE MANAGER (5th-6th grade only)

What I am looking for during auditions:

  • Responsible students who can Focus and Pay Attention during rehearsals. Also students who can SING/READ expressively and interact with others.
  • Even more than good acting, I am looking for students who can Behave themselves well and can be self-motivated to keep up with our rehearsal schedule.

Costumes

Students who are cast in the show will be asked to help provide simple costumes/costume pieces for their parts in the show. After casting I’ll send out a document with costume descriptions for each part. Thanks so much for your help and support in this matter! Costumes DUE: Friday 3/1/2024

If this is a problem, contact Ms. Dunlap at ameliad@provo.edu BEFORE the costume approval and submission deadline. The student can still participate; we’ll just need to work out alternative costuming solutions for them.

The following rehearsal schedule will go through January, February, weekly with a few exceptions due to holidays, etc. A full schedule will be given to you after casting is completed.

  • Ensemble Rehearsals will primarily be Thursdays (3:30-5pm) & Fridays (1:30-3pm).
  • LEADS will have an additional rehearsal most Fridays (3-4pm) after the ensemble rehearsals.
  • Stage Crew Meetings will primarily be Tuesdays (3:30-5pm), starting Tues 1/30.
  • Please note: Students will be rehearsing right up to the end time. Clean-up and getting out the door will occur after stated end time, & will take a few minutes. Please factor that into pickup procedures.

Please note: Students will need to be picked up at the front of Was Main by the Main office. There will be no office people there at pickup times so any phone calls home need to be made from the drama room with Mrs. Dunlap. They should NOT go to the office.

***IMPORTANT: Please note your child’s SCHEDULE CONFLICTS on the audition form. These will affect which ensemble group(s) your child will be cast in (Thursday/Friday/Both).

Attendance Policy

Each ensemble will have only 1 rehearsal per week for most of the rehearsal process. As such, attendance is crucial! Actors and Crew will not be allowed to miss more than 2 Rehearsals/Stage Crew meetings and parents must inform the director if their student is going to miss. After the 2 allotted absences, another absence may result in the student being dismissed from the show. If conflicts are noted on the audition form, 2 of these will equal 1 full absence.

Behavior Policy

For this show we will have a 3 Strikes policy. This means that if a student is misbehaving, they will receive a Strike. If they receive 3 Strikes in one rehearsal they will receive one Note on their show record, and I will contact the parent regarding their behavior for that day. If the student receives 3 Notes during the course of the show the student may be dismissed from the show. The ability to work well with others, self-regulate and work independently is such an important part of Theatre and I appreciate your support in this matter.

Parent Talent Needed

This show is designed to be able to cast as many kids as possible. We hope to be able to accommodate many more students than a typical play can handle. If you are a parent who would be willing to help facilitate children through the space, help with costumes, props, etc, and can commit to the Tech Week and Performance dates, WE NEED YOU! Please indicate on the Audition Form where you can help!

$15 Participation Fee

Once Cast in the show, we request a $15 Participation fee that will be due on Friday, March 1. This will help provide props, sets, cast party pizza and other related expenses.
