Wasatch Elementary School

Serving on the Wasatch Community Council is a wonderful way for parents to be involved at our school. The purpose of the Council is to involve parents in decision-making at the school level and to improve the education of students. The Wasatch Community Council consists of 12 members: 8 parent or guardian members and 4 employee members, including the principal. Each member (except the principal) is elected by their peers and serves a two-year term.

We are calling for the nomination of 4 parent/guardian members who would be willing to serve for the next two years beginning on July 1, 2024.

The responsibilities of the Community Council are as follows:

  1. Develop the annual School LAND Trust Plan and oversee its implementation. This plan determines the allocation of special state funding to address our school’s most critical academic needs, and the plan must be based on school-wide achievement data.
  2. Frequently review school achievement data as part of developing that year’s School LAND Trust Plan.
  3. Assist in the development and implementation of other school plans, such as the school improvement plan, the School Safety Plan and safe routes to school, the Safe Technology and Digital Citizenship Plan, and the Positive Behavior Plan.
  4. Become knowledgeable about school issues in order to build a positive bridge to the community.
  5. Attend at least 80% of the monthly meetings, which are held on the second Friday of each month at 11:45 a.m. during the school year (September through April).
  6. The above list of responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive. The Council may assist the principal in other areas, and Council members may also bring other issues to the Council’s attention.

If you would like to nominate yourself or someone you know to serve on the Wasatch Community Council, please submit your nomination BY EMAILING YOUR NAME AND A SHORT PARAGRAPH ABOUT YOURSELF TO TONJA ROBERTS (tonjar@provo.edu) by Wednesday, MAY 8th.

Voting will be held MAY 10th THROUGH MAY 17th if more than four parents/guardians are nominated.

Sincerely,

Chris Fuhriman, Principal

Sara Wursten & Emilie Nelson, Council Chairs
