Wasatch Elementary School

Dear Parent/Guardian,

It has been estimated that as much as 80% of learning occurs visually. Currently, vision disorders are the 4th most common childhood disability in the United States with one in four children having an undiagnosed vision problem. Our school is committed to ensuring every student is healthy and ready to learn.

In support of our commitment to promote healthy learners, our school nurse along with trained volunteers will conduct school-wide distance vision screening the morning of September 12th 2024. If your child wears glasses or contacts, please have them wear them the day of the screening.

A child’s vision can change as they grow, therefore it is important that students receive regular screenings to identify those that might need to be seen by an eye care professional.

Early detection and treatment of a vision problem is critical to your child’s educational success, health and wellbeing. You will be notified if your student does not pass the vision screening after the rescreening process.

Although school screenings are important, a comprehensive eye exam by an optometrist or ophthalmologist is the gold standard.

If you do not want your child to participate, complete the opt-out form and return it to your child’s teacher before September 12th 2024. We look forward to ensuring every child is healthy and ready to learn.

Thank you,

Ruth Ann Snow, Principal

Heather Chatwin, Registered Nurse
