Auditions are for Performing Dance Company and Advanced Dance

Prior to Auditioning

  • Submit an Application by April 19th at 10 am.
  • Submit 2 Teacher/Adult Mentor Recommendation by April 19th.
  • Learn and prepare your Audition Materials!

Audition Clinic

Thursday, April 18th, 3:30-4:30 pm, Gym

  • Practice the audition materials and ask any final questions. This is not required but is highly encouraged!
  • Sixth graders who get out of school later, please feel free to come late!

Audition Day

  • When: Friday, April 19th, 2024, 3 – 6 p.m.
  • Where: Boy’s Gym, Centennial Middle School
  • What to Wear: Dance/athletic clothing. No socks or distracting jewelry please! Shoes are not necessary but you may wear clean shoes for the hip hop portion and turners for the jazz and contemporary portions if you would like.
  • What to expect: You will be given a number to pin to your shirt when you arrive. This will determine the order that you audition in and the group that you audition with. You will be performing in front of a panel of 3-4 judges in groups of 4-5 people. Be on time and ready to dance the combos and your choreography! Your audition may be recorded for judges to reference as a callback. After you have auditioned, you may leave.

Frequently Asked Questions​

What are the judges looking for?

  • Strong Technique: including a single pirouette on both sides, leaps on both sides, pointed toes, lowered shoulders, lifted head. Additional technique skills and tumbling tricks are not required but encouraged such as calypso leaps, double pirouettes, a la seconde turns, etc…
  • Performance: confidence, smiles, memorization, large kinesphere, high energy, eyes looking up and out (not down)
  • Creativity and team skills: prepared group/individual choreography, choreography is interesting and not just tricks, good communicator, demonstrates being a team player, demonstrates an openness and willingness to work with others and try new things

How am I being scored?

  • Audition Form completed.
  • Teacher Forms completed. Must score at least a 24/30 to be considered for PDC.
  • Eligibility for 7th Graders: G.P.A. = 2.5 or higher, no more than one I, no U’s or N’s to be considered for PDC.
  • Dance Audition – 50 points total.
  • Technique: Hip Hop combo = 10 points, Jazz combo = 20 points
  • Dance Performance: 10 points
  • Artistry/Choreography: 10 points

How many dancers are in Performing Dance Company and Advanced?

15-25 in each class. Applicants are placed in the class that will be the best fit for them based on overall score and the scores of the total applicant pool.

When will I find out if I made it?

Audition numbers will be posted under Audition Results by April 26th. Remember that if you do not make it onto PDC or Advanced, take another dance class to work on your technique and artistry and to build connections with other dancers and teachers!
