Teacher Spotlight: Julie Porter
When asked what Julie Porter loves most about teaching her first grade students, she said: “The kids! Seeing that ‘lightbulb’ go on when they master a word, or figure out a problem, or read that first book all by themselves!!” Mrs. Porter loves animals. She has held a koala in Australia, has seen baby pandas in China, rode ponies in Fiji, and fed coos in Scotland. Traveling is more fun when animals are involved! Mrs. Porter is an avid reader and is currently in four book clubs. She also enjoys crafts, jogging, and skiing. Her favorite foods are Italian, Mexican, and anything with dark chocolate and nuts.
Parent Feedback
Mrs. Porter was such a great teacher for my son. She saw when he needed more challenging material for reading and pushed him to reach his potential. Books I had really struggled to get him to read she was able to intrigue him and encourage him to read in a way that piqued his interest.
She still remembers my child’s name years after having him in her class.
