Teacher Spotlight: Xiaoqian Xu
Xiaoqian Xu was born in the year of the pig. In Chinese culture, most people believe that those born in the year of the pig have the most luck throughout their life, and are very caring, considerate, kind, simple-minded, laid-back, and enjoy life and happiness. Mrs. Xu said this is a perfect description of her personality. It is also the reason her family and friends have been calling her “little piggy” as her nickname, since she was young. Mrs. Xu loves seeing her students grow throughout the year. She said, “It makes my heart so happy to see young children from knowing zero Chinese at the beginning of each school year, to carry a full conversation at the end of the school year.” She loves to make learning Chinese fun and meaningful for those young learners by playing lots of games, singing songs, and acting and moving around to get them excited to learn Chinese. Mrs. Xu loves all kinds of sports: playing basketball, badminton, ping pong, soccer, skiing, swimming and ice skating. Among all the sports, basketball is her favorite. She started playing basketball in 3rd grade and was on the varsity team all the way through college! Mrs. Xu loves all kinds of food and desserts, as long as they do not contain cinnamon! She is a wonderful 1st grade teacher!
Parent Feedback
Mrs. Xu is truly gifted as a language educator! She uses many gestures, and incredible visual cues to help students process new vocabulary in 100% Chinese! I am amazed by her cheerfulness, encouragement, and friendliness with each student and parent. My student always told me that Chinese was his favorite! I can see why! The classroom plays and songs were so impressive! I cannot believe that our students could speak and read so much Chinese! Thank you for what you do for our students! We love you, Mrs. Xu!
Mrs. Xu was such a great influence in my son’s life. He thrived in her classroom. He loves learning the language and learned to love speaking Chinese. She also gave him opportunities to lead in the classroom which helped to teach him kindness and understanding to others.
You give those fresh new students fun projects and do such a great job helping them transition from K to elementary schedule. Love how willing you’re always to help. And your passion for helping students. We love you!
