Welcome to Mrs.shih’s Classroom 欢迎来到施老师的教室！

Dear awesome parents,

     I am your student’s 2nd grade Chinese Immersion teacher, Mrs.Shih, originally from Taiwan. I graduated from the Ohio State University with a Masters Degree in Educational Studies. This is my 9th year teaching at Wasatch. There are 5 things I enjoy the most in my spare time: eating, traveling, taking pictures, listening to music, and wandering in the movie land. 

     I am thrilled to teach your student this year. This is going to be another wonderful “trial and error” learning experience. Your student will learn Chinese, Math, Science, Social Studies, and many other small but important things in my classroom.  I believe that positive student-parent-teacher collaboration along with strong home support and encouragement will definitely empower your student for life.  Please help your student arrive at school on time and avoid unnecessary absences as instructional time is precious. Your effort to help your student get enough learning time would be greatly appreciated.

On Friday, a weekly newsletter will be sent out via email to keep you informed of what the class has learned and some important reminders. Your student will also receive a weekly Chinese+Math homework packet on Friday starting the Labor Day week. Please encourage your student to complete homework and return it by the following Friday. Please help your student acknowledge the benefits of doing homework. S/he can: learn about problem solving, time management and setting priorities; have another opportunity to practice what was learned in class; learn how to work independently and take responsibility for his/her own learning; and understand the importance of planning, staying organized and taking action. I will also strongly recommend your student to take advantage of ​the learning platform links shown on my class website. ​Using these platforms ​at home may enhance your student learning experience. The platforms include Mandarin Matrix, Level Learning, Better Chinese, IXL and most importantly, Mrs. Shih’s Quizlet that covers what was taught in the classroom.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let Miss. Munger and I know at your earliest convenience so we can address the needs of your student if s/he is facing learning or other difficulties. • Learn difficult things BRAVELY. QUESTIONS are welcome!

• TRY your very best to improve yourself. Go extra MILES if you can!
