Dear Wasatch Families,

We are excited to announce a Summer Family Reading Challenge! As a school, we have purchased books that families can read together throughout the summer! The challenge begins June 1 and ends on July 29, 2021.

Here’s how our Summer Family Reading Challenge will work:

1. A list of books that are currently available will be shared in a survey. Choose a book from the survey that your family would like to read together. When you complete the survey, it will notify us of your selection. We’ll do our best to give you your first choice, but we do have a limited supply of books. As we get more books, the list will be updated.
2.  An email will be sent to the family when the book is ready to be picked up. If you have extenuating circumstances and cannot pick up the book, we will make arrangements to deliver it to your home. You will get to keep the book for your family library!
3. Read the book together as a family. Some books will take a while to read and others will take a shorter amount of time. You can choose to have an adult read it, or if you have older students, you may want to give them a turn reading.  Take time to ask your child(ren) questions about the text.
4. After you finish the book, take a picture of your family with the book. Have your family write a short 1-2 sentence review of the book. Email your review and picture to Ruth Ann Snow (ruthanns@provo.edu). We’ll be posting on the school website and on social media what families have been reading.
5. Repeat! That’s right. Each time you finish a book, you are welcome to request your next book and repeat the process. Our goal is for you and your family to do this multiple times over the course of the summer!

We hope that reading books as a family will bring you closer together, increase your child’s love of reading, and facilitate discussions with your child about reading! Below is the link to the survey, where you can request your first family book.

Queridas familias de Wasatch:

Estamos muy emocionados de poder anunciar el desafío de lectura para la familia “Family Reading Challenge”. Como escuela, hemos comprado unos libros para que las familias puedan leer juntos durante el año escolar.

El desafío de lectura para la familia funciona de la siguiente manera:

1. La lista de libros está publicada en nuestra encuesta. Escojan el libro que a su familia le gustaría leer e infórmenle a la escuela cuál es, por medio de esta nota o al llenar la encuesta en línea. Haremos todo lo posible por entregarles el primer libro de preferencia, pero recuerden que tenemos un número limitado de libros. Pondremos la lista al día cuando obtengamos más libros.
2. Después, la escuela les enviará el libro con uno de sus hijos. Este libro es para la colección de libros de su casa, quédense con él.
3. Lean el libro juntos como familia. Algunos libros tomarán más tiempo en leer, mientras que otros serán más rápidos. Pueden escoger quién los lee, un adulto o hijos mayores, tomen turno. Háganle preguntas al niño(s) sobre el texto. Hablen sobre su opinión de los diferentes personajes, etc. La lectura es divertida, especialmente cuando se puede conversar sobre lo leído con la familia.
4. Al terminar el libro, tómense una foto como familia con el libro. Escriban juntos un análisis del libro de 1 a 2 oraciones. Envíen el análisis y la foto a Ruth Ann Snow (ruthanns@provo.edu). Publicaremos sobre las familias que están participando en la escuela y en las redes sociales.
5. Háganlo otra vez. Cada vez que terminen un libro, pueden pedir uno más y repetir el proceso. Nuestra meta para ustedes y su familia es de completar el desafío varias veces durante el año escolar.

Esperamos que la lectura una más a su familia. También esperamos que tengan unas buenas conversaciones con sus hijos y crezcan sentimientos de felicidad en casa.  Deseamos que la lectura familiar ayude a sus hijos a desarrollar el amor por la lectura.
