Teacher Spotlight: Nicole Shih

Nicole Shih teaches 2nd graders at Wasatch in the dual language program. She said her favorite part about teaching is when her students begin to understand what she is teaching and smile at her. Mrs. Shih is afraid of watching scary movies, but watches them anyway. She introduces English songs every month on a radio station for a Taiwanese audience. She said she has a hard time recognizing new faces, possibly because she has “face blindness.” Mrs. Shih enjoys traveling, eating, listening to music, and gardening. Her favorite foods include Asian food, BBQ, Noodles, Boba, and cake.

Feedback About Mrs. Shih

—Henry says, “She is funny! She’s considerate as in like she pays attention to each student equally.” We are grateful for her dedication to her students and for all of her hard work and effort to help them love to learn Chinese, Chinese culture, as well as math and other subjects. We are grateful that she has supported Henry and recognizes him when we’ve seen her outside of school at activities and things as well. We are grateful for the time she has taken to give us feedback and suggestions about ways we can better help him.

—Mrs. Shih is very kind and teaches my 2nd grade child a lot of Chinese knowledge and Chinese culture.

Teacher Spotlight: Anna Munger

Ms. Anna Munger enjoys her second grade students’ smiles and laughter. She has swam in bioluminescent water, eaten fried chicken feet, and has fed and bathed elephants. Besides sleeping on her day off, Ms. Munger enjoys sewing, crafting, dancing, going to the beach, traveling, and experiencing new things. Her favorite food is pineapple, and her favorite dessert is dairy-free key lime pie.

Feedback about Ms. Munger

We are grateful for Ms. Munger and for all she is doing to help and teach our son. Henry says “She is nice,” and he is grateful for that. When we have had questions or concerns she has provided helpful feedback and ideas. We are grateful for her humor as well. Henry says she is funny. He’s also grateful she told him about the McDonald’s Halloween bucket happy meals. We know that she has a lot of students, and appreciate all of her efforts to help each one of them.

Ms. Munger leads my 2nd grader into the deeper experiences of English writing and learning.

Anna Munger and Nicole Shih have been amazing teachers for my son Dean. I am so pleased with them. They have helped my son become much more independent and have ignited new passions in him. Dean comes home talking about new science experiments he wants to try or laughingly tells me how they got to write the Chinese word for “butt” in the air with their butts. I love how Munger and Shih work together so well. They have great communication and I feel lucky for my son to be in their classes.
